History
Determined to establish franchises in major cities, the NFL added three teams in 1933: the Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Eagles, and Pittsburgh Pirates, who became the Steelers in 1940.
The Reds lasted only two seasons. They showed some promise in 1933, winning three of their last four games after going winless through their first six. But Cincinnati lost all eight of its games in 1934 and was outscored, 243-10. On November 5, the team's management sold the franchise to a St. Louis semi-pro team called the Gunners, which replaced the Reds in the league schedule and standings. The Gunners managed one win in the three games remaining on the schedule.
