CSTV Networks inaugurated the Collegiate Nationals in 2006 as a showcase for championships in college sports that are not conducted under the auspices of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
Beach volleyball, boxing, snowboarding, wakeboarding, and kayaking were the original sports. In 2007, adventure racing, flowboarding, freeskiing, and weightlifting were added, along with a music festival and a filmmaking competition.
Now known as "The Alt Games: College Action Sports Championships," the competition is currently owned by the CBS College Sports Network. It's called a festival, but it's actually made up of event that are held at different times in different places.
In 2010, the festival will comprise slopestyle skiing and snowboarding at Copper Mountain, CO, on April 10; beach volleyball at Santa Barbara, CA, on May 1 and 2; kayaking at Reno, NV, on May 8 and 9; wakeboarding and flowboarding at San Diego, CA, on May 14 and 15; and ultimate frisbee at Madison, WI, May 28-31.
