History
Established in 1993, the Gagliardi Trophy is presented annually to the outstanding scholar-athlete in NCAA Division III football by Jostens, Inc., and the J-Club of St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota.
The award is named for John Gagliardi, who has coached football for 60 seasons, 56 of them at St. John's. Gagliardi's 478 victories (against 129 losses and 11 ties) is an all-time record.
