Golden Spikes Award

History

USA Baseball, the national governing body for the amateur version of the sport, has presented the Golden Spikes Award to the country's best amateur player since 1978.

Although it doesn't have to go to a college player, in practice the winner has always been a current or recent college star, often someone who distinguished himself with the national team, in the Olympics or other international competition.

The award is co-sponsored by the Major League Baseball Players Association.
