History
On the 25th anniversary of Aaron's breaking the all-time career home run record set by Babe Ruth, the Hank Aaron Award was established to honor the best overall hitter in each league.
Winners were chosen in 1999 by a system that assigned points for each hit, home run, and RBI. They're now selected by radio and television broadcasters and analysts, who vote for three players from each league, with 5 points for a first-place vote, 3 points for second place, and 1 point for third place.
