History
Golf was one of the original nine sports for which the NCAA inaugurated women's championships during the 1981-1982 school year. Stanford hosted the first championship, won by Tulsa University, in May of 1982.
Preliminary competition takes place at two regional sites, East and West, with the top 18 five-woman teams advancing to the finals.
Those teams then take part in a 72-hole tournament, with the combined score of the four best players determining the team championship.
