NHL 1932-33 Season

Summary

The Ottawa Senators rejoined the NHL after having sat out the previous season, but they offered no challenge in the Canadian Division, where the defending Stanley Cup champion Toronto Maple Leafs edged the Montreal Maroons by 4 points.

The American Division was a real battle. The Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings each had 58 points, but Boston was awarded first place because of a better head-to-head record. The New York Rangers were only 4 points back of the leaders.

Toronto edged the Bruins in the series between first-place teams. The fifth and final game went six overtimes, with the Maple Leafs finally pulling out a 1-0 victory on Ken Doray's goal at 4:46 of the sixth OT. The game ended at 1:50 a.m. and the Maple Leafs then had to travel to New York for the first game of the Stanley Cup final against the New York Rangers that night.

The Rangers, who had beat the Canadiens and Red Wings to get into the final series, won in four games.
