History
When the NHL expanded from 6 to 12 teams and split into two divisions for the 1967-68 season, member clubs presented this trophy, to be awarded to the West Division's regular season champion. The trophy was named in honor of Clarence S. Campbell, the NHL president from 1946 to 1977.
The West Division became the Campbell Conference in 1974. Since the 1981-82 season, the trophy has gone to the Campbell/Western Conference team that advances to the Stanley Cup finals.
