Hart Memorial Trophy(NHL Most Valuable Player)
History
Originally the Hart Trophy, this award was donated to the NHL in 1923 by Dr. David A. Hart, father of Cecil Hart, former manager-coach of the Montreal Canadiens. The original trophy was retired to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1960. The NHL then presented the Hart Memorial Trophy as a replacement. The trophy is awarded to the NHL player "adjudged to be most valuable to his team," as selected by vote of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association. |
