History
This award is essentially the NHL Players' Association version of the Hart Trophy. It's given to the league's outstanding player, as selected by a vote of the NHLPA members.
Presented to the league by the NHLPA in 1971, the award was originally named for the late Lester B. Pearson, former prime minister of Canada. In 2010, it was renamed in honor of Ted Lindsay, the Detroit Red Wing Hall of Fame wing who was instrumental in establishing the NHLPA.
