Women's Freestyle Wrestling
Olympic Medalists

History

Women's wrestling was added to the Olympic program in 2004, with just four weight divisions, although there are six international recognized weight classes. Women compete only in freestyle wrestling, not Greco-Roman.

In 2004, 16 wrestlers qualified in each weight division. They were randomly divided into four pools, with round-robin competition determining the winner of each pool. The pool winners then advanced to the semi-finals.
