History
The Sailing Hall of Fame was established by Yacht Racing/Cruising magazine in 1982, when readers were asked to select sailors who had contributed most to the sport during the previous 20 years. As a result, 20 charter members were inducted.
A second class, of 11 inductees, was added in 1992 through another reader poll. Two more members were added in 1993 by a panel of international sailing yachting journalists. There have been no inductions since then.
