Despite controlling the ball for a record 40 minutes and 33 seconds, the New York Giants barely escaped with a 20-19 victory after Buffalo's Scott Norwood missed a 47-yard field goal attempt with seconds remaining. Buffalo had jumped out to a 12-3 lead, but the Giants went ahead 17-12 on a 75-yard drive in the third quarter. Thurman Thomas's 31-yard run on the first play of the fourth period put Buffalo back in front, but the Giants regained the lead for good on Matt Bahr's 21-yard field goal halfway through the quarter.
