Links to General Sports Sites
If you're looking for sites on a specific sport, you'll find links in the document(s) covering that sport. This page contains links to sites that cover sports in general, large groups of sports, or special sports history topics.
- Amateur Athletic Foundation of Los Angeles--A terrific resource. The virtual archive section includes hundreds of PDF files with articles from scholarly journals and official Olympic reports.
- The British Society of Sports History--The BSSH home page, obviously UK oriented, but it contains some interesting papers and links to many other sites.
- Extinct Leagues--Steve Dimitry has put together stats, standings, MVP awards, and a lot of other info on the AFL, ABA, WHAT, and many other leagues that no longer exist. A lot of information here.
- North American Society for Sport History--Primarily of interest to members, though the list of scholars may be of use at times.
- Smithsonian Institution Sports History--This is a page of links to sports history areas on the Smithsonian's web site, with photos of some of the Smithsonian's sports memorabilia.
- The Sporting News Archive--There's a lot of interesting stuff here, including histories of the World Series, Super Bowl, and other championships; features on great moments in sports history; scrapbooks devoted to several famous athletes; and an on-line almanac
- SportQuest--An excellent directory, with links to more than 13,000 sites on virtually every sport, plus sports science and medicine, coaching aids, etc. The search engine is an excellent feature.
- Sports123.com--Lists the top three finishers in world championships for almost every sport, as well as the Olympics, Pan American Games, and other major international meets.
- U.S. Olympic Committee--You can use the pull-down menu labeled "Sports/News/Results" to find information on every Olympic sport.
