History
A strong independent team throughout the 1930s, the Gunners often played exhibition games against NFL teams. When the Cincinnati Reds went broke after eight games in 1934, St. Louis investors bought the franchise and agreed to play the last three games on Cincinnati's schedule.
The Gunners won their first NFL contest over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Then they added five former Cincinnati players, lost their last two games, and dropped out of the league for good.
The team continued playing independently through the 1941 season but then broke up because of World War II.
