History

The Table Tennis Hall of Fame was nominally founded in 1966 with five charter members. However, no new members were added until 1979, when the U. S. Table Tennis Association (now USA Table Tennis) took over the hall and staged the first actual induction ceremony.

A 10-member board of directors now presides over the hall of fame, which is a list of names, not a physical location. Although members are classified as players, officials, or contributors, the classifications are sometimes rather arbitrary. Many of the officials and some of the contributors were once top-level players, and many of the players went on to become officials.
