The U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame was founded by the Eveleth, Minnesota, Civic Association in 1968. It moved into its own building five years later.
The hall is open only to natives of the United States. Players are eligible after they have been retired for five years. Coaches must have coached teams made up predominantly of U.S. players.
The 12-member selection committee comprises Hall of Fame members and hockey officials.
