History
The American Platform Tennis Association (APTA) in 1965 established an Honor Award to be presented to outstanding players and those who have contributed to the growth and development of the sport over a period of time. The award was presented to 33 individuals from 1965 through 1979.
The award lapsed in 1980 but was revived in 1992. When the APTA established its hall of fame in 1998, all Honor Award recipients were elected to the hall.
Selections for the hall of fame are made by a committee made up of former inductees, past presidents of the APTA, and the association's current and past directors. Induction ceremonies are usually held in conjunction with the APTA national championships in March.
