History
Founded in 1967 as a tour for professional male tennis players, World Championship Tennis in 1971 established a championship tournament to be played in May, at the end of the WCT season.
The top eight players from the regular season were seeded according to their rankings. The tournament ended when the WCT folded after the 1989 season.
