History
The first "world championship" horseshoe pitching tournament was held in Bronson, Kansas, in 1909. World championships were also held in 1912 and 1913, though there wasn't yet a national governing organization.
The The Grand League of the American Horseshoe Pitchers Association (GLAHPA) was founded in 1914 and took over the tournament that year. After a merger with a rival body, the GLAHPA became the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association of America in 1925 and is now known as the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association (NHPA).
The women's division was added in 1920. From that year through 1924 and again in 1927, there were two annual tournaments, one in the summer, the other in the winter. Those are designed by S and W in the lists below.
