History
After five years of negotiation and planning, the first Women's World Cup of Golf was staged in February of 2005 at the Fancourt Estate's par-73 Links Course in George, South Africa.
The tournament was co-sanctioned by the Ladies European Tour and the U.S. Ladies Professional Golfers Association. The three days of competition involved two-woman national teams competing in 18 holes of four-ball, 18 holes of foursomes, and 18 holes of combined stroke-play. The winners shared a prize of $200,000.
Originally, the tournament was held early in the year, before the world's major women's tours began play. Organizers announced that the 2009 event would be held after those tours completed their schedules and dates of December 18-20 were eventually chosen. However, the tournament was cancelled because of financial problems.
